Dreaming - A bit more frantic than the previous track. Attack - A fairly standard opening song for System of a Down, there's not much to say about this one except that Daron Malakian's guitar work is reminiscent of Sad Statue, from Mezmerize, and Serj Tankian most certainly performs up to standard.Ģ. These departures, ultimately, do little to detract from the overall quality of the album and it seems System of a Down have learned from some of the mistakes of Mezmerize.ġ. Popular examples include "Bounce!", "Sugar", and "This Cocaine Makes Me Feel Like I'm On This Song" (From Toxicity, System of a Down, and Mezmerize, respectively). Third, Hypnotize seems to feature a higher percentage of what I call the "silly tracks", those that have no apparent meaning or inspire more than a few chuckles due to the sounds/lyrics involved. Second, the socio-political commentary that usually permeates the band's music is conspicuously absent, at least from what I could tell in the few times I listened to the album before this review went to press. Hypnotize is a bit of a departure for the band for a couple of different reasons, the first being that this album is the continuation of its predecessor, Mezmerize. Released in Late November of 2005, Hypnotize is the 5th Album by System of a Down, whose sharp and often-on-the-mark socio-political commentary has dominated many of their previous albums. It shows that even at this stage, SOAD still had some amazing talent and songwriting still buried deep inside of them.First of all, I'd like to just warn you all that I am better at doing critical appreciation than reviews, so bear with me a bit, this is my first one. It’s melancholic quiet verses leading into it’s very angry and aggressive pre-chorus leading into a somewhat hopeful sounding chorus. It’s dark and at times almost atmospheric. “Holy Mountains”, the lyrical sequel to “P.L.U.C.K.” is a very underrated song. It’s catchier and more memorable than the previous track, but it’s still kinda bland and just sounds like a radio single they were forced into making for their label or something.” “Hypnotize” combines the poppier sound of this album and Mezmerize with the bands well know political lyricism. The powerful and emotional narrative in the lyrics and the beautiful guitar tone and vocal melodies make this one of System’s best closing songs. “
